Miami-Dade requires a tree removal or relocation permit for covered trees that are not exempt under the County Environmental Code. The County Tree Program has jurisdiction in unincorporated Miami-Dade and for specified County-protected resources, County property or rights-of-way, and municipalities that do not have their own tree protection ordinance. Municipal tree ordinances may control ordinary private-property tree work inside cities, while County environmental review can still apply to wetlands, mangroves and other protected resources.
