Business approvals depend on location and activity. Check zoning and occupancy/use first, then obtain County and applicable municipal business-tax receipts and other reviews required for that location.

Steps
- 1
Confirm local jurisdiction and permitted use
Determine the exact parcel's County or municipal zoning and ask the responsible planning office whether the proposed activity is allowed at that location. Lee County says businesses operating from a residential location in the county do not need zoning approval; businesses inside city limits may need a municipal business-tax account or city zoning approval.

Confirm occupancy and project approvals
The County occupancy guide explains when a Certificate of Use or Certificate of Occupancy is required and identifies the County business-tax receipt step; ask the responsible city or Town about additional local requirements.

Apply for the County Local Business Tax account
Use the Lee County Tax Collector's current guide, application and checklist. Confirm municipal coordination and exact requirements for the location and business type.
