Lee County Tax Collector publishes the application guide for a County Local Business Tax account. A business location may also require zoning approval, a Certificate of Use or Certificate of Occupancy, building or fire review, and a local municipal receipt. The Tax Collector says a business based inside city limits, or doing business within city limits, may need a municipal business tax account or city zoning approval; a commercial location outside city limits may need a use permit application reviewed by county building and permitting, while county businesses operating from a residential location do not need zoning approval. Lee County's occupancy guide states both the applicable occupancy approval and a County Tax Collector Business Tax Receipt are needed before opening under the covered process; it also notes that a municipality may require a local receipt. Requirements depend on the exact site, business activity and responsible jurisdiction. Do not describe one tax receipt as the only approval or quote fees without a current official schedule.
