Special Event, Public-Space, or Street-Use Approval in Hillsborough County

Unincorporated Countytampaplant-citytemple-terrace

Event approval depends on the event location, landowner, road owner, and activities. Tampa has an Office of Special Events. For County property, Plant City, and Temple Terrace, begin with the official parks/facility or government contact for the selected site and obtain written direction on event, street, fire, alcohol, food, tent, and vendor approvals. A park or facility reservation alone is not represented as every required permit.

Who needs this

Organizers planning a festival, race, parade, market, block party, amplified gathering, or other event using public property, a park/facility, or a road/right-of-way in Hillsborough County.

Steps

  1. 1

Identify the site owner and every public space used

Document the venue, parcel jurisdiction, park/facility owner, road owner, sidewalks, parking, setup areas, and event route. County, Tampa, Plant City, Temple Terrace, and state roads or properties are separate approval paths.

  2. 2

Start with the responsible event or facility authority

For special events on Tampa public property, bookings are initiated with the City's Office of Special Events; the City describes a one-stop permitting process. For a County park, start with Hillsborough County Parks & Recreation. For Plant City or Temple Terrace property, use the applicable city parks/facility page and obtain current written instructions. No centralized city event permit is inferred for Plant City or Temple Terrace.

  3. 3

Describe the full operation before applying

Provide dates and hours, attendance, site or route map, setup/teardown, vendors, food, alcohol, tents/canopies, stages, generators, sound, sanitation, waste, parking, security, emergency access, and any requested closure. Requirements and lead time depend on these facts.

  4. 4

Route street and right-of-way use to the road owner

A street closure, parade, race, sidewalk occupation, or traffic-control plan must be reviewed by the authority that owns the road. For City of Tampa rights-of-way, coordinate through the City's event and transportation paths; do not assume city approval covers County or state roads.

  5. 5

Obtain conditional safety and activity approvals

Ask the responsible fire authority about tents, cooking, generators, fireworks, occupant load, and fire access. Hillsborough County Fire Rescue lists fireworks-display, tent/sparkler, and tent permit services; confirm the applicable process with the responsible local fire authority. Alcohol, food service, mobile vendors, building structures, electrical work, signs, amplified sound, and security may trigger separate state or local approvals.

  6. 6

Pay only current invoiced or published charges

Use the responsible authority's current application, rental schedule, public-safety charges, deposits, and right-of-way fees. Amounts are intentionally dynamic because this review did not verify one countywide event-fee schedule.

  7. 7

Keep written approvals and operate to the approved plan

Do not advertise a public closure or begin setup based only on an inquiry or reservation request. Retain the issued reservation, event approval, road/fire/activity permits, insurance documents, and approved site/traffic plan at the event.

Tampa's official Special Events URL redirected to the current Office of Special Events page on 2026-09-24.The County and two smaller-city pages verified in this run establish the relevant parks/facility and fire entry points, but did not establish one universal special-event application, fee, or deadline. The workflow therefore requires written site-specific direction.A facility reservation is not labeled as approval for a road closure, alcohol, food service, tents, structures, electrical work, or other separately regulated activity.
