An ADU is a separate living unit on a property with a primary use. Tampa’s code allows ADUs in Seminole Heights, the area around Lowry Park, the East Tampa Overlay, and the Tampa Heights Overlay. Elsewhere in the City, ADUs may only be created for a family member as Extended Family Residences (EFR), with different requirements; the main residence must be owner-occupied, and other development and use regulations apply. Confirm the property's city limits, zoning, eligible area, parking, size, and current application rules with Tampa City Planning before design or construction. In unincorporated Hillsborough, use the County's residential new-construction requirements and zoning counseling; do not apply Tampa's map or standards countywide. After zoning review, route building permits to the authority for that parcel.
