PSTA Access: Door-to-Door Paratransit Service

Applies to: countywide · Verified 2026-08-29

PSTA Access is the county's shared ride, door to door paratransit service for people whose disability prevents them from using regular fixed route buses. It fulfills PSTA's obligations under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Older county materials sometimes refer to PSTA's demand response paratransit under the name DART; PSTA Access is the current program.

Who is eligible

Eligibility follows ADA guidelines and is based on functional ability, not on diagnosis alone. PSTA evaluates whether you can independently get to, board, and ride a regular bus. Some riders qualify for all trips, and others qualify conditionally (for example, only when heat or a temporary condition prevents bus use).

How to apply

Call PSTA Access at 727-540-1888 to start. The process has five steps: request an application (sent by email, mail, or fax), complete and return it, schedule a 30 minute mobility phone consultation, complete that consultation (medical verification may be requested), and receive an eligibility determination within 21 days.

Fares and booking

As of 2026-08-29, each PSTA Access ride costs $4.50. The service operates wherever and whenever regular PSTA buses run, on the same days and during the same hours. Book trips up to 6 days in advance and no later than 5 p.m. the day before you travel. Reservation lines are open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends and holidays. When you book, you agree on a pickup window, and vehicles may arrive within an hour of the requested time, so plan appointments with a cushion. unverified

Other options

Many riders with disabilities can also use the regular bus system at the reduced fare of $1.10 per ride, and PSTA's fixed route buses are all wheelchair accessible with kneeling features and securement areas. PSTA also offers Mobility on Demand style services in parts of the county that can complement Access trips. For general trip planning or questions about which service fits your situation, call the PSTA InfoLine at 727-540-1900 or PSTA Access at 727-540-1888. unverified
