No matter which city you live in, all of Pinellas County's garbage ends up at one place: the Pinellas County Solid Waste Disposal Complex, which includes the county's waste to energy facility and landfill. The county's stated vision is zero waste to landfill by 2050. Residents can use the complex directly, and two household hazardous waste programs keep chemicals out of the waste stream for free.
Solid Waste Disposal Complex
Location: 3095 114th Ave. N, St. Petersburg, FL 33716. Hours as of 2026-08-29: Monday through Friday 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., closed Sunday. Residents can self haul furniture, remodeling debris, yard waste, and other loads; disposal fees and holiday hours are posted at pinellas.gov/solid-waste-disposal-complex-hours/. Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Center
Location: 2855 109th Ave. N, St. Petersburg, near the disposal complex. Open 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday plus the first and third Saturdays of the month. Drop off is free for Pinellas County residents with a government issued ID.
Accepted items include automotive fluids (oil, antifreeze, gasoline, diesel), household chemicals and aerosols, lawn and garden pesticides and herbicides, pool and spa chemicals, paint (limits: 20 one gallon or 5 five gallon containers), fluorescent bulbs and mercury devices (limit 12), signal flares, rechargeable and single use batteries, vape devices (limit 12), and one e-bike battery per visit.
Not accepted: electronics, fire extinguishers, propane tanks, appliances, medications, and vehicle batteries. For those, use the Where Does It Go search tool at pinellas.gov/where-does-it-go-search-tool/ to find the right outlet.
HHW North (Clearwater)
A second drop off at 29582 U.S. 19 N in Clearwater operates 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on select Saturdays each month as a drive through: residents stay in the vehicle while staff unload. Check the county HHW page for upcoming dates.
Why it matters
Paint, gas, and pool chemicals in a regular trash can endanger collection crews and can spark fires at the waste to energy plant. The free HHW programs exist so there is never a reason to bag them.
